The Taliban has taken credit for yesterday's attack at the North Kabul International Airport complex in which three American contractors  were killed. A Taliban fighter is said to have infiltrated the ranks of Afghan forces to stage the attack and wore an Afghan police uniform.

A deadline set by Islamic State militants for the freeing of an al-Qaida prisoner on death row in Jordan has passed, and there's no word on the fate of a Jordanian pilot or his fellow hostage, a Japanese journalist.

Republican Sen. Richard Shelby is planning to run for another term, as reported by Roll Call.  Shelby's intentions were confirmed by a spokeswoman yesterday. The overturned 18-wheeler that caused traffic between I 20/59 Exits 76 and 79 to be congested late Sunday night and into Monday morning was caused by a driver who was trying to pull his own tooth. No one was seriously hurt in the incident.

Some doctors are refusing to see children whose parents won't get them vaccinated against the measles, as the children put other children in waiting rooms at risk.  At least 98 cases of measles have been reported in an outbreak linked to Disneyland in Southern California. Many of those infected were not vaccinated.

Yesterday, the Alabama Prison Reform Task Force heard a list of recommendations from the Council of State Governments on how to decrease overcrowding in state prisons. Methods included hiring more probation officers and creating a new felony class for low-level offenses.

Tuscaloosa City Schools officials say the deadline to apply for the Tuscaloosa Magnet schools, University Place schools, and the Alberta School of Performing Arts is today at 3pm.

"Suge" Knight has turned himself in in connection with a hit-and-run incident that left one man dead and other injured in Compton, California. Knight is said to have accidentally run over and killed a friend and injured another man as he fled attackers. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
