Area men will compete this Saturday for the area's first chili cook-off to raise money for the East Tuscaloosa Community Soup Bowl. The event will be free to the public for tasting and judging starting at 6pm but donations are accepted.

According to the Tuscaloosa News, more than 8 gallons of chili prepared with beef, venison and chicken will be served and Soup Bowl director, Charlie Simmons said proceeds will help provide supplies and food for the charity's clients.

The Soup Bowl serves hot meals every Wednesday and Friday at Hargrove Memorial United Methodist Church, 1812 Hargrove Road E and provides bag lunches that are available for pickup on Sundays at Alberta Baptist Church.

The First Christian Church Men's Chili Cook-off is this Saturday at 627 Paul W. Bryant Drive.
